Cannabis Vaporizer Usage 101

January 28, 2010 – 9:18 am

Before anything else let’’s talk about vaporizers first, Vaporizers are devices used to extract thru inhalation different ingredients from a plant’’s material, usually tobacco, cannabis and the likes (herb vaporizers). Vaporization, which is the process of heating a plant material in semi vacuum to vaporize different active compound is considered an alternative to smoking. The best vaporizer is the one which has the best filtering mechanism.

Although the concept is all the same with smoking there are a lot of notable differences. First there is basically no combustion since herbs are treated to simply emit their vapour therefore no smoke is evident. Second, vapour basically contains no minuscule matter such as tar and lastly there is less concentration of dangerous gases like carbon monoxide.

Scientific analysis on the vaporizer usage

According to studies, release of dangerous matter is reduced with the use of vaporizers. However according to a different study, vaporizers still shows at least ten times more tar compared to THC though this is considered as an improvement compared to the usual smoking. Therefore, “smoking vaporizers” do not REALLY mean smoking.

A recent study investigated on the usefulness of intrapulmonary THC absorption using a vaporizer and pure doses of THC instead of cannabis. The results showed that there was low ”between subject variability” in the THC plasma concentrations, further concluding that a vaporizer is a suitable way in administering THC.

When using other plant materials aside from THC concentrations, multiple cannabinoids as well as other components such as terpenoids were detected. However, the use of pure THC’’s show that there was no by-products produced. Also, large fractions of THC were delivered through the vapour using the pure THC rather than the usual plant materials.

Different analyses show that the vaporizer produced 36 to 61 percent of THC. For comparative purposes, studies on cannabis cigarettes smoked through a smoking machine found almost similar efficiencies of 34 to 61 percent through varying conditions such as puff durations and the likes. Therefore the similar effect could be achieved without smoking the cannabis directly. Cannabis Vaporizers truly rock, don”t they?

A test of Different Vaporizers

A study a few years back tested different vaporizer models against filtered and unfiltered cigarettes. Studies show that the two vaporizers though generic performed at least 25 percent better compared to the unfiltered cigarettes in terms of tar delivery. Filtered cigarettes performed worse plainly because filters usually filter out the psychoactive THC with the tars which then requires the user to use more to achieved desired effects.

The studies have never measured the presence of harmful gases, such as carbon monoxide, though studies done in the past have claimed that there is a significant decrease in the harmful gases through the vaporization process.

Although vaporization produces cleaner vapours compared to smoking, it does not completely eliminate irritations in the respiratory system. A large puff may induce the user to severe coughing, this maybe due to the THC which is considered to have expectorant effects.

Technology on Cannabis Vaporizers

Today, there are digital vaporizers, portable vaporizers and other easy-to-use vaporizers which top the best cannabis vaporizers list. They are also widely available online and in brick-and-mortar stores.
